This an old will that I ran across somewhere. Although it isn't in the area that I live, I thought that it was very interesting reading.
Will of John DOLLY
as written
17 Nov 1838, probated 7 Oct 1847 in Pendleton County, Virginia, on record in the courthouse in Franklin,
W.Va.:
In the name of God Amen, I John Dolly of the
County of Pendleton and state of Virginia well sunken
in age, weak in body but sound in mind and memory,
calling to mind the mortality of all Flesh, do make
and ordain this my last Will and Testament.
First
and principally I command my soul into the hands of
God who gave it and my body to the dust to be buried
in a decent Christian like manner nothing doubting
but I shall receive it again at the resurrection at
the last day. Secondly as to my Worldly Estate
wherewith the Lord hath blessed me. Will to my son
Andrew the lands he now lives on known by the name
of the Clay(serk), by paying $100 to his sisters one
year after my decease.
Thirdly I Will to my son John
the place he now lives on with me, joining lines with
George which I have run, I will that John shall have
my mare, one cow and the large kettle after my decease.
Fourthly I Will to my son George the place he now lives
on joining the Bemfa Lick by paying $50 to his sisters
one year after my decease.
Fifthly I Bequeath unto my
daughters Catherine, Phebe, Christian, Mary, Ann and
Eve, $100 each including what they now have to be paid
in one year after my decease. The girls shall have all
my bedding and household furniture after my decease.
Sixthly I appoint my son John to be my Executor of
this my last Will and Testament. He shall stop the
interest of my money at the date of my decease and
shall call in all interest and pay all expense after
my burial. If there is any balance left he shall be
equal divided in the Estate and if there is any wanting
the Estate shall bear it. .I do hereby reject and
disclaim all other Wills heretofore made, Ratifying
this and this only to be my- last Will.' and Testament .
