How the town of Jane Lew got it's name:
The town of Jane Lew was originally know as McWhorter's Mills because of the mill located there along Hacker's Creek.
In 1829, the third Post Office of Lewis County was established there, with Fields McWhorter as Postmaster.
In 1835, Lewis Maxwell, one of the founders of Weston, purchased the Jacob Bonnett farm and divide it into town lots. The town thus laid out was named Jane Lew in honor of Jane Lewis, mother of Lewis Maxwell.
