HYCAT Handbook: Goals & Objectives


Listed below are some of the "Goals & Objectives" that the HYCAT Coaching Staff has
developed for the 2000-2001 Swimming Program: 

NOTE: These "Goals & Objectives" are based upon the assumption that the swim-
      mer will be a member of the HYCAT Swimming Program for a MINIMUM of two (2)
      seasons {NOTE: FALL SEASON from September to December; WINTER SEASON from
      January to mid April; and SUMMER SEASON from late April to mid August}

DEVELOPMENTAL/INSTRUCTIONAL SWIMMING PROGRAMS

** ALL swimmers perform ALL four (4) of the competitive swimming strokes
   "properly/correctly"
   ** Freestyle
   ** Backstroke
   ** Breaststroke
   ** Butterfly
   ** PLUS the IM {Individual Medley}

** ALL swimmers learn a "competitive" forward racing dive from starting block

** ALL swimmers perform the "proper/correct" start for ALL four (4) of the 
   competitive strokes
   ** Freestyle
   ** Backstroke
   ** Breaststroke
   ** Butterfly
   ** IM

** ALL swimmers perform the "proper/correct" turn for ALL four (4) of the  
   competitive strokes
   ** Freestyle
   ** Backstroke
   ** Breaststroke
   ** Butterfly
   ** IM

** ALL swimmers learn how to utilize the "pace clock" properly/correctly

** ALL swimmers learn how to utilize the swimming equipment properly/correctly 

** ALL swimmers participate in at least one (1) HYCAT Novice Swim Meet per 
   swimming season

** AT LEAST 50% of the swimmers remain with HYCAT for the 2001 Summer Season

** AT LEAST 75% of the swimmers return for the 2001 HYCAT Fall Season


COMPETITIVE SWIMMING PROGRAMS

** ALL swimmers record "life time best times" in every stroke and at every
   distance within their age group

** ALL swimmers compete in every stroke AND every distance within their age
   group, including AT LEAST two (2) distance events of 500; 1000; 1650; 2000;
   3000 or 5000 Free or 400 IM

** HYCAT places 1st in their three (3) home meets PLUS the HYCAT/Huntington Meet 

** HYCAT places 1st at the 2001 {28th consecutive} West Virginia Short Course
   Swimming Championships in mid March AND the 2001 {15th consecutive} West
   Virginia Long Course Swimming Championships in late July/early August

** HYCAT/YHSC places 1st at the 2001 Y Cluster Championships for the 3rd (4 out of
   5) consecutive year on March 3-4, 2001 in Athnes, OH

** HYCAT/YHSC places Top 5 at the 2001 Great Lakes Y Zone Championships in mid-
   March in Indianapolis, IN

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) swimmer qualify for 2001 Summer Phillips 66
   National Swimming Championships; AT LEAST one (1) swimmer place Top 24 at the
   2001 Summer Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships 

** HYCAT has AT LEAST eight (8) swimmers qualify; AT LEAST five (5) swimmer place
   Top 16; and AT LEAST one (1) swimmer Place Top 8 at the 2001 Y Short Course 
   National Championships 

** HYCAT has AT LEAST twelve (12) swimmers qualify; AT LEAST six (6) swimmers 
   place Top 16; and AT LEAST three (3) swimmer Place Top 8 at the 2001 Y Long 
   Course National Championships

** IF this meet is being conducted by USA Swimming, HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) 
   swimmer qualify for 2001 Summer Speedo 19-UN Swimming Championships; AT 
   LEAST one (1) swimmer place Top 24 at the 2001 Summer Speedo 19-UN Swimming 
   Championships 

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) swimmer listed in the Top 25 USA Rankings 

** HYCAT has AT LEAST five (5) swimmers listed in the USS Top 16 Age Group 
   Rankings

** HYCAT places 1st in every "team" swim meet held within the West Virginia 
   Swimming Association

** HYCAT places in the Top 10 of every "team" swim meet outside the West Virginia 
   Swimming Association

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) High School All-American each year

** HYCAT has AT LEAST five (5) swimmers win individual events at the WV State 
   High School Invitational Swim Meet each season

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) swimmer selected to attend one of the USS Swim 
   Camps each year

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) swimmer place 1st at the Phillips 66 Swimming 
   Championships by the year 2004

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) swimmer selected for an USA International Swim 
   Meet Trip by the year 2004

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) swimmer achieve the 2004 Olympic Trials quali-
   fying time standard in an individual event; 

** HYCAT has AT LEAST one (1) swimmer make the 2008 Olympic Team
