Greg Olson, Director and Head Coach

Greg Olson has served as the Director/Head Coach of HYCAT since 1973 and coaches the Comp 3 Program. He came to Charleston from Indiana University where he received his Masters Degree in Physical Education. At IU he was an Associate Instructor within the PE Department and Assistant Swim Coach for the Bloomington Swim Club.

Greg began his competitive swimming career in Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of seven. He earned All American honors in both high school and college. He graduated from Bucknell University in 1970, where he held four school records and received the Most-Outstanding-Senior-Athletic Award.

Coach Olson serves as the Director of the Aquatic Programs at the University of Charleston and teaches part-time within the UC PE Department. He has two children, Scott and Melissa, who were members of the HYCAT swimming program and have continued their swimming careers at the collegiate level. Greg and his wife, Sue, live in the South Hills area of Charleston. Greg also serves as the General Chairman for the West Virginia Swimming LSC and has served on several USS committees.

Cindy Hemsworth has been with HYCAT since 1997 and serves as the Head Coach of the Developmental Age Group Program, which includes the Bronze, Silver, Gold, High School, and Masters Teams. She is a former HYCAT swimmer and has one year of intercolletiate experience at Wheeling Jesuit College. She also supervises HYCAT's Learn-to-Swim Program. Cindy and her husband Josh have two children.
