Ring & Pinion Gear Swap

Here is a picture of the front Dana 30 axle taken out of the Jeep. The tear down process is similar to the rear axle.



I removed the differential cover and drained the gear oil. I cleaned the old gasket material off the mating surfaces.



The hubs are held on the steering knuckles by bolts on the back side. After removing the bolts the axle shafts slide out. The inner shaft does not need to come out. It only has to slide a few inches out of the carrier.



The driver side hub assembly was completely worn out. Here is a picture of the new hub assembly installed.
