Our
three-generational traveling party, Mary, Daria and I, left West
Virginia on a chilly March afternoon. By evening of the next day
we had shed our winter wraps and were standing by the waves on Madeira
Beach, Florida. Mary graciously loaned us her car, so Daria and
I proceeded to St. Petersburg. From there we made day trips to Siesta
Key, where the sand looks like superfine sugar, and to Homosassa
Springs. Miami was further away than we thought it was. It took
six hours, driving the fastest way, via the Tamiami Trail, or Alligator
Alley. On our return from Miami to St. Pete, Daria saw 109 alligators!
