The need for change

Horror, pain, loss and endless suffering are being inflicted upon men, women, children, animals, and the land of Iraq by the people of the United States. The leaders of our government assure us that this living hell we send them to is necessary to keep us safe, that Saddam Hussein is the vilest of evil men, having killed hundreds of thousands of people, that the bombs we drop are not a danger to civilians because the bombs are so “precise” that they are “humane.”

Our leaders do not mention the fact that a 2000 lb. bomb makes an enormous crater, enough to eat up many lives: plant, animal and human, beyond the target and that bombers flying out over land never return to base loaded; they must drop their bombs somewhere, even if they can’t locate the target. When Donald Rumsfeld speaks of the great cruelties of Saddam Hussein, he doesn’t mention that the US was, for much of the time, furnishing the Iraqi leader with the technical knowledge to murder effectively. US cabinet members don’t tell us how we can be safe in a world in which our souls are contorted by the belief, against the teachings of all the major religions, that is is our right and necessity to bring the living hell called war to others.

There are other ways. We must find them.
