News — Autumn 2002leaf graphic

We have some photos here with captions to give an idea of what we've been doing the past few months. We've been busy having a good time.

Bobo is napping on the loft, his favorite spot to sleep, after helping us all day long.

Many of these photos were taken with Bobo's active participation.

This and next three autumn colors photographs were taken on a walk one Saturday afternoon. The light was glorious after a rainy week. Bobo led the way, making sure the tripod was properly positioned (bumping it if it wasn't) and offering suggestions of things to see and sniff.
A glorious patch of red on a hillside across from the shack.
Particularly luminous maple leaves.
The forest floor also changes color. Now, after almost all the leaves have fallen and dried the color is a beautiful light brown.
We've had snakes in the yard all summer long. This is a graceful beauty heading off to its winter home.
This caterpillar was on the window glass one day. She is on the outside, we shot this picture from the inside. Her feet are just barely visible.
One of our projects was purchasing a power hammer for the shop. We have it set up here in a temporary spot until we move it onto its still to be completed foundation.

This is a view of the moving parts for the power hammer. The 70 pound ram moves up and down according to pressure on a foot pedal.

The hammer weighs 1200 pounds and was a chore to get off the truck and bring back our bad road to the shop. Our neighbor, Junior Lane, was a great help in the process. We couldn't have done it without him.

We also made some repairs to the shop roof and gave it a coat of paint.
And we've been painting other buildings. Here is the shack after the siding has been stained and the trim painted red (of course). We have the west side still to do for the shack and then will paint the trim for the shop yellow. The privy is painted yellow and red and is quite a bright spot in the yard. Other colours we plan to use for our buildings are dark green and ultramarine blue.
