The Seasons — We’ve collected some of our photographs to show the changing seasons on our farm.

The Gas Well documents a natural gas well that is to be drilled on our property by a company that leases the mineral rights.

Woods

Our home is surrounded by dense woods. There are areas where large pines abound, old fields transformed. Mostly these trees are mixed hardwoods — oak and hickory predominate with patches of beech, cherry, maple and poplar.

The woods support and nourish us in many ways. Leafy trees keep our home and shop cool in the summer. Dead trees become firewood to heat our home in the winter. The woods and their seasons also nourish our souls. We believe that people were made to live in a complex natural environment. It stimulates the spirit and senses. No manmade environment can have the sensory (or “narrative”) complexity that a natural environment has. Over time a manmade environment becomes stultifying.
