The Shopleaf graphic leaf graphicleaf graphic

The Shop was the second building we built. It was easier (we learned things from building the Shack) and was pretty much finished in the year it was built. All that we had to do was put in windows when we moved to West Virginia. Later, we found that we needed additional workspace so we added on a 12 x 12 foot “addition“ and then later on we found we really needed more light, so we added large windows to the north and west walls.

photo of posts laid out for raising   We’ve cleared the site for the building and have dug the holes for the posts. The pressure treated posts are then raised, dry cement poured in to secure them, and braced until more framing will hold the posts stead. The moisture in the ground over time will set the cement.

photo of posts   The posts are all set upright, this is shot facing north, along the east wall to the right. The posts aren’t entirely straight when we get them, so some nudging with bracing or a come-along helps to get everything in line.

photo of Molly working with raftesr   After the posts are set up wall plates and roof plates are attached, tying everything together. The next stage is the rafters. Molly is waiting for the next rafter to set up on her right.
