Home § Perennials § Business Services

Very Brief at the Moment:

The farmhouse was built approximately 1890-91.  The picture on the home page must be soon after the house was completed or perhaps still under construction.  At some point between this time and 1916, when there was a roof fire, a single story section was added on to the back of the house. The louvered section above the front door goes a little ways towards explaining why the house currently has a door off the porch roof.

The house was the site of the Lone Willow Post Office from about 1925 until it closed in 1936.  A report in the Roane County Reporter on 8/11/36 reports that " a beautiful weeping willow stood by the residence for many years from which the post office took it's name.  The willow tree was blown down last year."  Prior to this time, it seems the area was referred to as Leo and prior to that, Pratt.
